Our teams

Jobs at the House of Commons cover around 20 different specialisms, organised into five main departments.  Learn more about the different teams here:

Department of Chamber and Committee Services

The Serjeant at Arms and his team of doorkeepers are responsible for security on the Parliamentary Estate and ceremonial duties in the Chamber, while staff of the Official Report transcribe and publish parliamentary proceedings on the web and in print.

Clerks and their teams work in both the procedural offices for example, taking parliamentary questions in the Table Office and supporting select and legislative Committees that scrutinise Government Departments and legislation. The Office of Speaker's Counsel provides legal advice, and the Office of the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards is also based here.

Department of Facilities

The Parliamentary Estates Directorate looks after the Grade I listed Palace of Westminster and numerous outbuildings, calling on electricians, lock fitters, cleaners, receptionists, specialist upholsterers, painters and decorator’s project leaders, and mechanical engineers, among others.

Our award-winning Catering Services team includes head chefs, chefs de partie, commis chefs, waiters and baristas, provide services from sandwich bars to banqueting, tea rooms and cafeterias to casual dining restaurants.

Accommodation and Logistics Services provide reception and facilities services in the Palace of Westminster and the many outbuildings on the Parliamentary estate. Services provided include reception, meeting room management, and cleaning. The Logistics section ensures the effective screening and delivery of goods and mail.

Department of Information Services

The Commons Library staff provide research information and analysis to support MPs and their staff. A range of subject specialists and statisticians produce research briefings and manage reference books, online resources and databases.

Information Services promote public understanding of Parliament through its visitor, education and outreach services. Visitor assistants conduct tours and run our cafes and gift shops, while learning specialists work with schools, teachers and events professionals to run a range of events, including the annual Youth Parliament. This work is supported by media officers in our Media and Communications team, and web content managers in the Web and Intranet Service. Other IT functions are provided by the Parliamentary ICT service (PICT), a separate organisation.

Department of HR & Change

Human resources, learning and development, change management, health, safety and wellbeing, and information security professionals provide services and advice to employees, managers, Members and Peers.

Department of Finance

Management accountants and other professionals provide financial support to different departments and projects across the House, paying staff and invoices, and supporting continuous improvement projects.

Offices of the House

The Speaker's Office, the Office of the Chief Executive and the Parliamentary Security Director's Office each has a small team of specialists and administrators supporting key functions within the House and its governance.
